about

‘Frozen’ began in October 2000 and was released in May 2001 on the old Mp3.com as a free download. At that time, I was releasing under my name. This release became a favorite of mine and over the years I found myself going back to it for inspiration.
It was recorded using a free version of Opcode and Native Instruments Absynth, along with studio recordings of odds and ends around the house (pots and pans, dripping water, my voice, etc). The original mixer along with all the audio files are now lost to time.
I used my old mp3 files to do this remix, so there may be some poor audio in some of the tracks. At the time, I really didn’t know what I was doing when it came to mixing, mastering, and archiving. I feel this remaster gives it new life. I actually heard a few things I never noticed before.
Special thanks to my father George Hinkle and brother Edward Hinkle. Both of you inspired and encouraged me to create this and the other albums that followed.
Thank you to my wife Donna Hinkle for bearing with all the noise coming from the studio.
This was remastered in Springfield IL during the pandemic and during a period of very low temperature.
February 2021. Twenty years. Much has changed. So much has changed for the better.

Frozen tells the story of a poor soul freezing to death. This is one of my fears.

the wind and the fall
- the season changes, and the silent cold of winter begins. as the poor weather rolls in, progress is hindered by an injury.

imposing cold
- the brutal cold wind begins to cut through unprotected flesh.

dismal region
- a snow covered wasteland awaits. there is nothing here, no sense of direction, and no idea of where to go.

silently concealed
- hidden under the snow...safe, but giving up hope... a hiding place from the wind, but not the cold.

divine calm
- finding peace in fate, the pain will end…acceptance begins

unresponsive
- the spirits of the cold visit as you drift away.

enveloped by frost
- nothing remains but ice. the end of 'frozen' and the end of the struggle.

alternate mixes were found in my archives:

imposting cold alternate mix
unresponsive alternate mix

thank you for spending a moment of your life listening.
